Although it may feel difficult, let’s find the beauty today in forgiveness.

Do you find yourself “taking out the trash” every few years? Have you ever found yourself  finally get fed up with some of the hurtful, spiteful, unhappy people in your life and decide enough is enough? And so, perhaps you  set them free and keep them at an arms length (or two, or ten) and move on. It may feel good at first, in fact it may feel great, but does it really ever solve the problem?

It may be time to rethink how we feel about and perceive forgiveness. We seem to think that in forgiving someone we are giving them, the ones who have hurt us, a free pass. There is no repercussion for their actions. Or that, do I dare say it, we are weak. We seem to think that in forgiveness we are folding our hand. Caving in. Where is the beauty in this?

The beauty is, this is not the case. The beauty is, when we forgive someone for their actions, we too are humbled. We excuse the imperfections of the person, knowing we have imperfections ourselves. We are not in fact weak. It takes amazing strength to forgive, ten times the strength it takes to take out the trash as described earlier. Forgiveness is difficult, and complex, and makes us walk away from our comfort zone. And any challenge such as that has to be character building, soul soothing, and life altering. How can this not be a beautiful thing? Forgiving doesn’t wipe the whole event clear from your mind. It does however wipe it clean from your heart. The burden is no longer yours to carry. Isn’t that a lovely idea?

So instead of taking out the trash when someone hurts you, don’t toss them to the curb just yet. Forgive. See how much better it makes you feel and the peace that then surrounds you. It will be well worth the effort.

How will you embrace forgiveness this week? Tell us about it at the Facebook page or Community Chat page. We would love to hear your thoughts!

Hope you have been inspired! Happy Monday!
