How many times could your life use a little freshening up, but you don’t have the funds to do it? The change in seasons can often have us yearning for a new space, new clothes, or new surroundings, but our wallet may tell us otherwise. Well the good news is, you can turn very simple and ordinary objects into treasure. You don’t have to be super crafty, nor do you need a great deal of resources. Take a look below at some simple ideas for turning trash into treasure that you can enjoy!

1. Speak up for cast offs.
Let friends and family know that you are always looking for cast offs. This can be furniture, collectibles, décor items, clothing, etc. If they know you will come get it, they will call you first when they are ready to get rid of it.

2. Get handy with the basics.
If you can spray some spray paint and use a staple gun, you can easily make over a furniture piece. Can you sew a basic straight stitch? Then you can add embellishment to old clothing pieces and sew pillow covers. Get handy with these basics and your options are endless.

3. Think outside the box.
An old suitcase can be filled with fabric and turned into a pet bed. Or, use it to hold your DVD’s. An old t-shirt can be torn into strips and tied into a dog leash. Picture frames and simple side tables can be painted in minutes. When you give basic cast offs a little love, they can be turned into all sorts of treasure.

4. Can’t use it? Sell it!
Your trash may be someone else’s treasure. If in the end your cast offs can’t be repurposed, put them on Craigslist, Ebay, or hold a garage sale. You can even try consignment shops. This is a great way to get quick cash that comes in handy when the urge to refresh hits.

5. Make it do.
You may not be able to afford a brand new couch, but maybe you can sew some simple pillow covers. Or, maybe you can add a colorful throw. A new bathroom may not be in your budget, but you can grab $1 colorful hand towels or paint an accent wall for just a few dollars. Take small steps to make big impact and turn sad spaces happy.

You too can turn trash into treasure. Give these tips a try and see how simple and rewarding it can be! Your budget will love you for it.
