Dieting paid for

Well, I thought I would update you all on my progress with Personal Trainer Food and let you know how I am doing!  I am happy to say that I am down 8.5 lbs in 13 day!  I swear I didn’t lift myself up with helium balloons like in the picture above either, haha!

YIPPEY!

If you haven’t been following my journey, I did a post HERE and HERE about it to bring you up to speed.   Basically I received a box of delicious chicken, veggies and snacks from Personal Trainer Food (no TV dinners, real meat and veggies) that covers all of my meals for a full 28 days.  I have eliminated all processed carbs from my diet, no sugar, no flour, no potatoes and no dairy except for cheese.  It was surprisingly easy to adjust to and I have had no problems staying on track which is amazing for me!

On this program they want you to focus more on routine and eating properly than actual “dieting”.  By eating the right foods and doing some simple exercising (10 minutes of walking per day) your body goes into fat burning mode and the weight starts coming off naturally.   I honestly haven’t done much else besides what is recommended and I am pleasantly surprised that I am not hungry and the weight really IS coming off!

The cool thing about removing processed carbs and sugars from your diet is that you no longer have the energy ups and downs during the day as your sugar levels crash.  I wake up feeling good and haven’t had the mid day slump since I started eating right.  It took about 3-4 days for my body to adjust to eating properly and during those days I felt a little sluggish here and there but nothing to really speak of.

The food is DELICIOUS!  You get to pick out the items that you want them to send you which includes Pre-cooked, Frozen, Gourmet Quality yet Affordable, No-Low Gluten options.  For the most part I selected chicken, beef, veggies, sausage, eggs, cheese, nuts, etc.  It is all good.  I haven’t found anything that I don’t like yet and there is a lot to select from.  My FAVORITE are the gluten free Buffalo Chicken Sticks, it makes me feel like I’m cheating even though I’m not!  It is included with the food that they sent me and OH SO GOOD when I just want something that seems off limits.  The regular chicken breast and veggies are all very tasty too and I haven’t felt deprived of anything at this point.  You can eat an unlimited amount of meat & eggs and some veggies so there are plenty of options to keep you full while your body adjusts to no carbs.

So how much does this cost?

Everyone asks me this question before anything else, so I wanted to give you an idea of how much this would cost to do on your own.   Keep in mind that Personal Trainer Food sent me a 28 day supply of ALL MEALS and snacks to try out, this is called their ALL INCLUSIVE program.  I was planning to buy in on the deal anyways because it was the ONLY plan that I could find that sent actual REAL pre-cooked, frozen, gourmet quality food that is not boxed or tv dinners.  I have tried those programs and they get old really fast.   So with that said, my package which includes a Breakfast (such as an omelet and sausage) a Lunch (such as a seasoned chicken breast and veggies) and a Dinner (such as a meat ~beef or chicken~ and veggies) as well as two snacks per day (Sausage & Cheese sticks, Almonds, Pistachios, etc) would be $369 total for the whole month after the $75 promotion on their website (code MyYear2015).  That works out to be $13.18 per day or roughly $4.39 per meal not factoring in the 56 snacks you get with it.  For me that is a GREAT DEAL because it is really good healthy food and I don’t have to think about what I am going to eat or spend time preparing the foods I need to lose weight.  I am SURE that is why I have been as successful as I have been so far.  The ease of grabbing something, heating it up and eating it and feeling satisfied but keeping on track is my idea of an easy diet.  I get off track when I have to plan it out for a month.

There are cheaper programs too which you could easily do as well if you didn’t want to put out that much initially.  Since the breakfast meals consist of omelets or eggs with cheese and a meat like sausage or bacon you could do those yourself and buy in on the 2 meal program instead.   For me, I will probably stick with the “All Inclusive” package because it takes the guess work out of it and makes it WAY too easy.

I am about to enter into my THIRD week on the program.  Personal Trainer Foods sent me a video on what to expect in the third week (you can check it out here if interested).  It is suppose to be the HARDEST of all weeks so I am really going to stay focused and stay with the program.   I promised myself that I would give this a full 28 days without wavering at all from the program and see how I do.  I personally need to lose about 50 lbs so I will be THRILLED if this is the program that works for me long term.  So far I feel fantastic and the food is no problem to keep up with!

  • Last week I shared more information on what I am eating, you can check that out here
  • If you are thinking of ordering, click on this link here but DO NOT use the promo code (for $50 off) it gives you when you click on my link, go directly to the order page and use code MyYear2015 to get $75 off.

I know that many of you are doing your own weight loss programs too.  I would love to hear how yours is going!  Please comment and share!!

You know you sang that song in your head when you read the title to this post, haha

all about that bass

Well, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size 2 and never will be, but I am getting myself back on track and trying to eat right this year!  So far I am doing pretty good and staying on track which is pretty amazing for me.  Normally I will start a diet or healthy eating plan and within a few days I have either given up or sabotaged myself by “cheating just once”.   Just in case you missed it, I posted about my plan of action HERE earlier this week and promised to keep everyone posted on how it was going and what was working for me.

I have received a TON of private messages and comments about the new program that I am on and a lot of people were wanting more details so I will do my best to explain how it works and what I am up to.

My goal for this year was to start eating “cleaner” and avoid so much processed food.
I have been researching this for a while and it just seems like the best way to go instead of trying some crazy diet plan with tv dinners, shakes or whatever.  I have tried all of those and they never worked for me long term.   In the past however, I was somewhat successful with a low carb diet like Atkins, BUT, I didn’t like not being able to eat any fruits or veggies while on Atkins.

Right now I am eating Personal Trainer Foods which are 98% Gluten Free

I actually found this program while researching healthy food options.  For me, the biggest problem with changing my eating habits is figuring out what to eat and when I am supposed to eat it.  I can go to the grocery store and buy all of the “right” things, but that usually only lasts a few days and I am stumped on what to make for dinner or how to stay completely on track and I mess up by eating something I’m not suppose to eat.   With Personal Trainer Foods they send the food right to you already packaged (NOT TV Dinners) with things like individual seasoned chicken breasts and fresh frozen broccoli or other vegetables.   The whole idea is that you just select what you want to eat for your meals, three times per day, heat it up and keep on going!  The convenience of having the food right there and not having to think about it is HUGE for me.  I have been on it now for six days and have not varied off of the program or the correct foods to eat at all yet.  It has been SUPER EASY.

These are the basic foods that you can eat on the program
(if you wanted to try to do it on your own without ordering the food you can)

Basically you are removing most carbs (besides those in some veggies) and gluten from your diet.  They way that I understand it is that by eliminating most carbs and replacing those items with lean meats, veggies, eggs and cheese, your body will go into fat burning mode and start burning off the fat that you already have since it won’t have useless carbs to burn off.   I am not a diet and nutrition expert so it is a little bit hard for me to explain exactly how it physically works, but you can check out a video here about the program that I am doing for a more thorough explanation.

I CAN HAVE:
  • Unlimited lean meats (beef, chicken, pork, fish, seafood, etc)
  • Eggs are unlimited prepared any way
  • Leafy greens are unlimited – lettuce, kale (what is that anyway?), spinach, etc.
  • Non-starchy vegetables in moderation (cukes, celery, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, etc.)
  • Nuts (up to 3oz per day), almonds, pistachios, macadamia, walnuts or sunflower seeds
  • Cheeses up to 6oz per day (that is a HALF a small block, what?!)
  • One apple per day
  • Sauce / dressing w/2g or less sugar per serving (most ranch salsa, etc.  No LOW FAT)
  • Butter and oil fine in moderation
  • Herbs and spices
  • Non-dairy powdered creamer (to lighten coffee)
  • Water, Coffee, Unsweet Tea allowed
I CAN NOT HAVE:
  • NO sugar of any kind.  No candy (not even sugar free), dessert, pies, ice cream etc.
  • No Agave or Honey
  • No Starches which means no flour, grains, rice bread, pasta, cereal, granola, popcorn, etc.
  • No Starchy Vegetables which means potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, peas, beans, etc.
  • No Milk or other dairy AT ALL.  No yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, milk
  • No milk alternatives (sorry guys), no soy, rice, almond or hemp milk (HEMP?)
  • No nuts except those listed under the DO section (no peanuts, cashews, pecans)
  • No nut butter of any kind, so no peanut butter, cashew butter, etc
  • No fruit EXCEPT for apples and you can have one per day (delightful snack at night I must say)
  • No protein bars or shakes or meal replacements of any kind
  • No fruit juices (even with no sugar added)
  • No alcohol at all.  Not even low carb or gluten-free it stalls fat loss
So what am I eating??

To be honest, it is really easy, this is pretty much what my meals have looked like lately:

Breakfast:  Egg and cheese omelette with bacon

Lunch:  Seasoned Chicken Breast with Broccoli or mixed veggies

Dinner:  Meat (whatever kind) and veggies and maybe a salad  if I’m really hungry

Snacks:  Cheese sticks, Nuts, sliced meat and cheese rolled up or apple usually

I am NOT hungry at all, ever.

Since I am on the Personal Trainer Food Plan I already have all of this on hand since they sent me EVERYTHING that I need including all meals and snacks for 28 days.  Of course, you could TOTALLY do this on your own and eat the same exact things, but for me, the convenience of having it all right there in packs ready to go to just heat and eat helps me to understand WHAT I am supposed to be eating without having to prepare it myself.

When I first started checking out the program I found a Groupon Deal that I actually bought in on before the company offered to let me try the food for free in exchange for an honest review (no other compensation).  The groupon deal was $99 for $200 off any 28 day meal package or $199 for their 28 day REV program which is kind of like an “extreme fat burning program”.  The REV program comes with a RIDICULOUS amount veggies (140 veggie servings) and comes with ONE meat serving per day for 28 days.  With the REV program, you can add other items on your own from the “allowed list” too.  I personally don’t think the REV plan is the best one to start out with unless you have to lose weight really fast for a special occasion or event or if you plan to add more of the allowed food to it.  Here’s why…

After discussing everything with the company, they ended up sending me their “all inclusive package” which includes EVERYTHING that you need for 28 days (28 breakfasts, 28 full lunch meals, 28 full dinner meals and 56 snacks).  If I were purchasing the entire program myself, I would probably buy the ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGE (if you can swing it).  It ends up working out to about $12.29 per day or $4.10 per meal for HEALTHY and REALLY GOOD FOOD plus snacks!  If you can’t swing putting out that much, then buy the REV pack and add the other meats and eggs to it.   I am not kidding when I say that I will VERY LIKELY continue buying the package after the 28 days because the food is really good.  That is saying a lot too since you all know how frugal I am.  I really don’t think that I could buy all of this good food and prepare it like they do for much less than that.  It just makes it so easy!

Again, you CAN do the same thing on your own by buying the foods yourself, but they make it super easy and for me just starting out,  EASY is very important.

As of this morning, I am down 4.2 pounds and I feel great!  I personally did not go through any kind of weird sugar withdrawals by eliminating the carbs from my diet.  I do think that sugar withdrawals is to be expected though.  I am not a soda drinker so it wasn’t hard for me to eliminate sugar drinks at all. The hardest thing for me was not using Bailey’s French Vanilla Creamer in my ice coffee each morning.  I had to switch over to non sweetened powder creamer, but it didn’t kill me and I have adjusted to that pretty well I must say.

The biggest difference that I have noticed is that I don’t have the energy high’s and low’s at all since starting to eat right.  I wake up feeling refreshed each morning and I maintain my energy level throughout the day.  Part of the program requires you to walk a minimum of 10 minutes each day, no other exercise required.  I have to admit that it doesn’t sound like much, but if you aren’t used to exercising, 10 minutes of brisk walking seems like an eternity.   What I do is I walk around my yard for 10 minutes while listening to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” on repeat three times which totals ten minutes.  If you haven’t listened to that song yet, it is SUPER CATCHY so you can’t help yourself from getting a little pep to your step (here is the youtube video if interested).  After a couple of days of faithfully walking, I actually felt like walking and it was the weirdest feeling EVER!  🙂

I will keep you all posted as I continue my 28 days of Personal Trainer Foods and let you know my honest opinion of the food and how it works for me.  I would love to hear about whatever program you are doing as well.  I have friends on different programs and it really helps to talk about it and keep each other motivated!!

Here is an idea of just SOME of the food selections that I was able to pick:

nutri system photo week 2

Okay, I’m sorry, but I had to say it!   I am not sure when it happened, I know it wasn’t overnight, but I gained weight and it wasn’t until I saw recent photos of myself that I had to take a good look in the mirror and realize that it was time to take this matter seriously.  I am SO HAPPY that I was selected to be a Nutrisystem Nation Blogger and that I could share my journey to lose weight with all of you!

blake shelton

I have to say, I am lucky to have a very loving and supportive husband that thinks that I am beautiful regardless of my weight, but I sure wish he would have said something or put an exercise program into place before it got out of hand!   Is it okay to blame him for my weight gain?  Why not right?  After all, it is HIM that has a “snack down” from 7pm until he goes to bed and is about as physically fit as they get right?   Plus, when I am up blogging late at night HE is the one that brought me up a plate of food that he had lovingly cooked since I skipped breakfast and lunch because I was so busy with work.   Yeah.. I am thinking that it is his fault right?   Where is he?  I think he needs a good scolding!  Haha.

Obviously it isn’t my husbands fault that I put on weight or anyone else’s fault, it is my own. I knew that I was gaining weight, I would take action for a short period of time and then drop back into my old habits of not eating breakfast or lunch and waiting until I was starving before finally deciding what I wanted to eat.  This is always a recipe for weight gain and I know this logically, but somehow we tell ourselves that we “aren’t even eating very much and still put on weight”.   Have you ever said those words?  I know I have a million times.

One thing that I have found with Nutrisystem is that I don’t have to THINK about it at all, I have a log that I jot down whichever item I selected to eat out of the list of items for that time of day and go about my business.  I don’t have to count calories, I don’t have to think about the combination of items, they take the guess work out of it and have everything properly balanced.    Honestly, the food is REALLY GOOD too.  I was surprised about that the most.  I thought that I would dread eating the food that they sent, but their morning shakes and entree’s are good and their deserts are ridiculously amazing.  I am not a sweets eater generally, but I have to admit that I don’t skip out of my deserts since they are on my list as okay to eat!!  There has only been one or two items that I didn’t care for in their breakfast choices, but those can  be easily substituted for something in their breakfast line that I do like.

I am HAPPY to tell you that since July 8th I have lost a total of 7.6 lbs!  YES!  Really!  SEVEN POINT SIX GLORIOUS POUNDS have miraculously LEFT the number on my scale!  I am beyond excited about it since it has been super easy and I am ABSOLUTELY NOT HUNGRY!  As a matter of fact, I honestly have to make myself eat half of the time because I am never hungry.   Another one of our coupon friends Brandy shared with me that she just started Nutrisystem as well and she has lost 8 lbs in the same time frame!  YAY Brandy!!

I am excited that Nutrisystem has given me the opportunity to try their program and report my progress to you. Over the next 4 months, each week I will bring you an update on my journey and give you the good, the bad and the exciting!    So please check in to see how I am doing each week,  if you are on a weight loss journey too, I would love to share notes and encourage each other!

So that is my update on my weight loss journey.  I will be posting every week on how I am doing.  I can not wait to share my progress with all of you and look forward to hearing about your weight loss progress as well.  Jump on board and lets do this!

skinny person

Well folks, the time has come!  I need to tackle this “Blogger Butt” that I have developed!

I have always been a very active person,  but since I started blogging more frequently the last couple of years I have become less active and that has resulted in me putting on some very unwanted weight.  I was SO EXCITED when I was told that I was selected to be a Nutrisystem Nation Blogger and that I could share my journey with all of you!   I have heard about Nutrisystem success stories and actually had a good friend of mine that lost a ton of weight with Nutrisystem years ago (that’s you Lorie) so the idea of checking it out, trying out all of their products and actually losing weight was VERY appealing to me.

I have tried weight loss plans in the past and have succeeded with different programs, but things changed after I hit 30 years old.   It is much harder for me to lose weight!  I am really busy between my mortgage / real estate work and blogging, so I have a REALLY bad habit of not eating ALL DAY, getting to the point of feeling like I am starving to death and then making the wrong choices when I do eat.  Honestly speaking, I need the hard work done for me which is why Nutrisystem is perfect.  They count the calories for me and tell me what to eat!  It is soooooo easy, the foods are actually marked Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack… I just grab whichever one I should be eating and get right to it!

So I am excited that Nutrisystem has given me the opportunity to try their program and report my progress to you. Over the next 4 months, each week I will bring you an update on my journey and give you the good, the bad and the exciting!    So please check in to see how I am doing each week,  if you are on a weight loss journey too, I would love to share notes and encourage each other!

My Nutrisystem arrived in two parts, a big giant cooler with all of the cold stuff and a big box full of pantry items.   It looks like I have a pretty good supply of everything in their product line so I will test them all out and tell you what I like and so forth!   I noticed right away that they have a LOT of snacks and the ones that I have tried have been REALLY GOOD!  I tried their Red Velvet Whoopie Pie and the Orange Creamsicle Pops and they were EXCELLENT!

I can not wait to share my progress with all of you and look forward to hearing about your weight loss progress as well.  Jump on board and lets do this!
