Are you feeling resentment towards someone or something?

Today I got to thinking about resentment and what exactly it means. At first I thought it was like holding a grudge, a bad memory from someones bad actions that just won’t go away. And in a way it is. But that is not entirely the case. Resentment in my mind is holding onto a feeling. Resentment is a feeling, a sour, painful, horrible feeling creeping through our bones over and over, day after day. The worst part? In your mind you are not harboring this feeling because you want to, but because you think someone else is making you do it.

Therefore, you begin to resent them.

Have you ever heard the saying that says holding resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die? Do we really think that by harboring resentment towards a person, it will have any serious impact on them? Sure they might tell we are angry from time to time. Sure we might distance ourselves from them.  But in the end it is like the saying says. We feel resentment and in turn start to poison ourselves with the awful feelings it brings. And while we stand back and wait for all of this lovely and luscious resentment to take its fatal toll on this person, we see little to nothing happen and are left scratching our heads.

Resentment is a master trickster. It gives us a false feeling of power, or of being in control of a painful situation. It gives us the feeling that we are right and justified to feel that way.

So I am going to ask you: Feeling peace or feeling right? Which one seems more appealing? The answer here is obvious.

Letting go of resentment… Sure it is not easy, but darn it, it sure is healthier than holding onto it. Only you can choose how you wish to let that resentment go. Forgiveness, meditation, and mediation with the person are all wonderful options.

So how will you let go of resentment? Let us know on the Facebook page or Community Chat page!

Happy Monday, friends.
