Thrifty Thursday GOOD

I thought it would be fun to set aside a certain day of the week to post a specific frugal meal idea using items that we have in our stockpiles or current sales!  I will try to do this each week and would love to share some of your menu ideas as well!  I hope you enjoy this addition to the website, please let me know what you think!!

We love Sloppy Joes but sometimes it’s nice to have a “twist” on a traditional comfort food.  With the excess pasta we have from using coupons and grabbing it free, this is a great easy recipe to whip up for the family.   Of course, you could used canned Sloppy Joe mix with this instead of all of the ingredients, but there is something about the taste of making it from scratch that my family loves.  Either way, try it, you will LOVE it!!

SLOPPY JOE SPAGHETTI:

1lb. Ground Meat (we use ground turkey)

1/2 cup Bell Pepper chopped fine

1/2 Cup Onion chopped fine

2 Teaspoons Minced Garlic

1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar

1 Teaspoon Mustard

1/2 Cup Ketchup

1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar (white vinegar can be used)

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

1 8oz. Can Tomato Sauce

1 package Whole Wheat Pasta

Tools Needed: One large stockpot.  One large Skillet.  Preferred tools for stirring and a colander.

Cook pasta as directed on package.  In large skillet brown ground meat for 7-8 minutes or until cooked through and no pink visible.  Add in chopped onion, pepper and minced garlic and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until vegetables are softened.  In medium bowl, mix together brown sugar, mustard, ketchup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and tomato sauce until thoroughly blended.  Pour into skillet over meat mixture and stir coating meat well.  Let simmer for 12-15 minutes on medium heat.  Drain pasta and pour meat/sauce mixture over pasta.  Can be served with a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese on top.

ENJOY!!
