Making a wish list for Santa is a holiday traditional for children all over the world. Each year, children get out their toy catalogs, pencil, paper, and start writing a list of what they wish Santa to bring. This year, why not start a new tradition? This crafty Christmas wish jar is a fun and frugal way to gather up those Christmas wishes, and is especially great for children who can not write yet. With a Christmas Wish Jar, children simply cut out their wishes from their favorite toy catalog and place it in their jar. Easy peasy! Now take a look at how to make your own.

Crafty Christmas Wish Jar

Supplies needed:
Mason Jar with Lid
Glitter Foam
Glue
Chalkboard label or black construction paper
Chalk

We were able to find all of the above supplies except for the chalkboard label at our local dollar store. If you want to use a chalkboard label, you can find them by the sheet at your local craft store for around $3 a package. If you want a more frugal option, using black construction paper will work too!

Directions:
1. Begin by cutting a 2 inch strip of glitter foam and wrapping it around your jar. Secure it with glue.
2. Cut a second strip, this one about 1 inch thick, and wrap it around your jar on top of the previous strip. Secure with glue. Now we used a green and pink combo, but you can use any combo you want! Get creative, have fun with it!
3. Place the chalkboard label or cut a square of black construction paper and secure it over the strips of foam. You can now put the words “Wishlist” or your child’s name on the jar. Again, the choice is yours.
4. Cut a piece of foam to fit the lid of the jar. You can do this by tracing the lid over the foam and cutting out the circle. It will fit great this way.

Now all your child needs to do is start snipping out pictures of those wishes. As they gather them they can place the pictures in the jar. This is a fantastic way for Santa (and you!) to know exactly what it is they want for Christmas. How cool is that?

So head to your local dollar store and grab all of the fixings to give this fun and festive craft a try. When you are done, share your creations with us on our Facebook page or Community Chat page. WE WOULD LOVE to see what you came up with!

Happy crafting!
