I think everyone can agree, a woman’s job is NEVER, EVER done!!!
From raising children, holding down a job, and being a wife women do seem to shoulder a large portion of the family responsibilities. Not to diminish the man’s role in the LEAST but it seems men are much better at taking some ME time where us ladies seem to deny ourselves this, in fact it seems SOME of us actually take a weee bit of pleasure in self denial, but WHY?
Women tend to see themselves as a martyr and some are willing to do it, but why? All the jobs that women and mothers undertake are difficult. Would ANYONE say that motherhood is not a FULL time job and then some of those Full time mothers are working full time somewhere else and on top of that you have to give a bit of your attention to your husband, parents, friends, church etc. We come so far down the line we end up somewhere near the bottom, usually in the basement.
Being last on the list, all the time, isn’t healthy. There’s only so long you can deny yourself relaxation. Some of us are on budgets and some of us are short on time but the first step we have to take to get more ME time regardless of our personal circumstances is to give ourselves permission to do it! Men are very good at carving out time for themselves, probably because no one ever encouraged them to deny themselves it. Whose husband golfs or is on a bowling league or softball team? Whose husband goes hunting or fishing? Whose husband has a workshop or “MAN CAVE” they escape to?
So how can we women ensure we get me time too? Here are a few simple tips to teach you that it’s OK to take some me time and to carve it out of your hectic schedule just like your husband does!
1. Join SOMETHING… Do you enjoy sports like your husband or maybe scrapbooking? If you make a commitment to BE somewhere chances are better that you will actually FIND the time to get yourself there. That’s not to say to join something you don’t fully enjoy but if there’s a commitment you can make to an activity you like, do it.
2. Sleep .. When do you get a chance to just SLEEP. I KNOW you are TIRED, lots of you are working 2 full time jobs. Take a nap, leave that something that “must get done” for later. There’s no shame in saying you need a break. How about instead of cooking every Sunday you take a nap and order out? Budget your time and money so you can afford to take a break and get a little more sleep. You’ll be more productive and relaxed when you are awake.
3. Be Selective… You do NOT have to say YES to everything. There are so many hours in the day and days in the week, you have the right to tell people you don’t have TIME. If someone asks you to do something that would equate with you robbing yourself of ME TIME, just say NO. You’ll be better prepared to perform your best at the rest of the things on your schedule if you are rested and relaxed not packing your schedule until it bursts at the seams. Remember EVERYONE, even us ladies, need time for ourselves. So give yourself permission to pamper yourself and have a little ME TIME! You earned it!!!
