Have you made an exercise resolution ?
It’s a BRAND new year and that means you probably made a resolution to get healthier, lose a few pounds, eat healthier..or all the above. Hopefully you MEANT to include your family in your goal, because it will make keeping your healthy New Years resolution that much EASIER and more FUN! Plus you get to spend quality time with your family, and that’s always positive! So maybe you are wondering how can we turn exercise (not so much fun) into fun family time? Well, I have 3 great tips to make exercise a Family Fun activity.
ExerPlay: yes you read that right exercise doesn’t mean a treadmill to nowhere, exercise can be combined with play time and be LOADS of fun and get your heart rate pumping! Some of the best Exerplay exercises are visiting an actual playground. Climb on the monkey bars, slide down the slide, jump rope, you’ll look REALLY silly, but your kids won’t mind and you’ll be burning lots of calories. That’s a BIG plus! You can include ice skating, roller skating, dodge ball, geocaching, a round of golf…whatever your family finds FUN get out and DO it!
Organized Sports: Families who play together stay together! While there are not a whole lot of sports leagues for the family there may be a few in your area. Look for badminton, volleyball, golf, bowling or other mixed leagues to get in exercise with the whole family and have tons of Fun! Playing on a team together can also foster a sense of unity like no other activity!
Set a goal: Maybe your family wants to take it up a notch and run a marathon (or half marathon, everyone has to start somewhere!) Pick an event and train together to reach your goal. Not only will you have gotten more fit, you’ll have spent more time together and accomplished a goal, and there’s nothing better than that!
Regardless if it’s Wii bowling or the NYC Marathon pick an exercise activity the whole family can get on board with and stick to it! If exercising isn’t FUN the reality is most people will not stick with it. So plan your family exercise routine, encourage each other to stick to their goals and have a LOT of fun getting healthier together.
