The weekend is the perfect time for some frugal family fun! You don’t need to spend big bucks, or even hour upon hour to enjoy some quality time with the kids. In fact, this DIY Ice Cube Crayons activity is the perfect weekend activity, easy to create and simple to enjoy. If you have ice cube trays and food coloring, you are all set! Take a look below at how to do this activity yourself as it is sure to be a hit with your kiddos!

DIY Ice Cube Crayons

Supplies needed:
Assorted food coloring
Toothpicks or spoons
Ice cube tray
Water

Directions:
1. Begin filling your ice cube trays with water so they are about 3/4 of a way full. Don’t go any higher than 3/4 of a way or the colors may run into each other and mix.
2. Add a drop of food coloring to each square. You can always mix drops of colors too so you can achieve colors like orange and purple. Use your toothpicks or a spoon (rinsed in between uses) to mix the water with the color.

3. Return the ice cube trays to the freezer and allow them to rest until frozen.
4. Remove the ice cubes. They will now be gorgeous, icy colors.
5. Use your ice cube crayons to color on snow or on white paper. Make dots, draw lines, etc. You can place paper or snow on a cookie sheet if you wish so the color stays in one place and you can enjoy easy clean up.
