This week, we got all wild and crazy with jar gifts. If you tried making the Brown Sugar Meatloaf in a jar gift from Tuesday, you probably saw how easy and frugal jar gifts can be. Because of this, you might be inspired to make this season a jar gift season, giving all of your loved ones some tasty jar treats. Well if you are looking for more inspiration, you are about to find it. Below, you will find everything you need to know about making and gifting a super quick and easy Pickles in a Jar gift. For this project, you will put all of the fixings your recipient needs for some tasty pickles they can enjoy even during the cold months. Take a look!
DIY Perfect Pickles in a Jar
Supplies Needed:
Quart glass jar with lid
2 teaspoons of garlic powder
2 sprigs of dried dill
½ teaspoon of coriander seeds
¼ teaspoon of mustard seeds
¼ teaspoon of pepper or whole peppercorns
1 pinch of red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon of salt
Scissors
Scrap fabric
Note card
Directions:
First, let’s get your jar ready. Be sure it has been rinsed with soap and hot water and then dried thoroughly. You don’t want to place any dried goods in it while it is damp. That would be bad!
Then, cut a piece of scrap fabric to fit over your lid. Place the piece of fabric over the flat circle of the lid and then place the ring over it to secure it. You now have your jar looking nice and festive. Trim any loose and uneven fabric to make it ruffle nicely around the jar.
Now, pour your dried ingredients into the jar. There are not a great deal of ingredients to create a layer effect, so just place them in as you wish.
On your note card, you then want to copy the following directions:
Fill your jar 3/4 of the way with cold water.
Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
Replace the lid and shake so that the dried ingredients mix well with the water and vinegar mixture.
Remove the lid and place sliced cucumbers into the jar. You can slice them in spears, make chips, or just add chunks.
Replace the lid and allow the jar to sit in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
Remove and enjoy your tasty pickles!
You can place your note right into the jar along with the ingredients if you wish, or you can simply tie it on with ribbon. Placing it in the jar is a great way to fill up some of that empty space. NOTE in our sample picture we have shown the completed product as your recipient would finish it. Yours will not look like this as you will not be adding the water and cucumbers for them, unless you wish to give them a completed jar.
When you give this jar gift, you are giving your loved one all of the makings of a tasty pickle in just a few easy steps. They will love making their own pickles right in their own kitchen.
