You know you sang that song in your head when you read the title to this post, haha
Well, it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size 2 and never will be, but I am getting myself back on track and trying to eat right this year! So far I am doing pretty good and staying on track which is pretty amazing for me. Normally I will start a diet or healthy eating plan and within a few days I have either given up or sabotaged myself by “cheating just once”. Just in case you missed it, I posted about my plan of action HERE earlier this week and promised to keep everyone posted on how it was going and what was working for me.
I have received a TON of private messages and comments about the new program that I am on and a lot of people were wanting more details so I will do my best to explain how it works and what I am up to.
My goal for this year was to start eating “cleaner” and avoid so much processed food.
I have been researching this for a while and it just seems like the best way to go instead of trying some crazy diet plan with tv dinners, shakes or whatever. I have tried all of those and they never worked for me long term. In the past however, I was somewhat successful with a low carb diet like Atkins, BUT, I didn’t like not being able to eat any fruits or veggies while on Atkins.
Right now I am eating Personal Trainer Foods which are 98% Gluten Free
I actually found this program while researching healthy food options. For me, the biggest problem with changing my eating habits is figuring out what to eat and when I am supposed to eat it. I can go to the grocery store and buy all of the “right” things, but that usually only lasts a few days and I am stumped on what to make for dinner or how to stay completely on track and I mess up by eating something I’m not suppose to eat. With Personal Trainer Foods they send the food right to you already packaged (NOT TV Dinners) with things like individual seasoned chicken breasts and fresh frozen broccoli or other vegetables. The whole idea is that you just select what you want to eat for your meals, three times per day, heat it up and keep on going! The convenience of having the food right there and not having to think about it is HUGE for me. I have been on it now for six days and have not varied off of the program or the correct foods to eat at all yet. It has been SUPER EASY.
These are the basic foods that you can eat on the program
(if you wanted to try to do it on your own without ordering the food you can)
Basically you are removing most carbs (besides those in some veggies) and gluten from your diet. They way that I understand it is that by eliminating most carbs and replacing those items with lean meats, veggies, eggs and cheese, your body will go into fat burning mode and start burning off the fat that you already have since it won’t have useless carbs to burn off. I am not a diet and nutrition expert so it is a little bit hard for me to explain exactly how it physically works, but you can check out a video here about the program that I am doing for a more thorough explanation.
I CAN HAVE:
- Unlimited lean meats (beef, chicken, pork, fish, seafood, etc)
- Eggs are unlimited prepared any way
- Leafy greens are unlimited – lettuce, kale (what is that anyway?), spinach, etc.
- Non-starchy vegetables in moderation (cukes, celery, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, etc.)
- Nuts (up to 3oz per day), almonds, pistachios, macadamia, walnuts or sunflower seeds
- Cheeses up to 6oz per day (that is a HALF a small block, what?!)
- One apple per day
- Sauce / dressing w/2g or less sugar per serving (most ranch salsa, etc. No LOW FAT)
- Butter and oil fine in moderation
- Herbs and spices
- Non-dairy powdered creamer (to lighten coffee)
- Water, Coffee, Unsweet Tea allowed
I CAN NOT HAVE:
- NO sugar of any kind. No candy (not even sugar free), dessert, pies, ice cream etc.
- No Agave or Honey
- No Starches which means no flour, grains, rice bread, pasta, cereal, granola, popcorn, etc.
- No Starchy Vegetables which means potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, peas, beans, etc.
- No Milk or other dairy AT ALL. No yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, milk
- No milk alternatives (sorry guys), no soy, rice, almond or hemp milk (HEMP?)
- No nuts except those listed under the DO section (no peanuts, cashews, pecans)
- No nut butter of any kind, so no peanut butter, cashew butter, etc
- No fruit EXCEPT for apples and you can have one per day (delightful snack at night I must say)
- No protein bars or shakes or meal replacements of any kind
- No fruit juices (even with no sugar added)
- No alcohol at all. Not even low carb or gluten-free it stalls fat loss
So what am I eating??
To be honest, it is really easy, this is pretty much what my meals have looked like lately:
Breakfast: Egg and cheese omelette with bacon
Lunch: Seasoned Chicken Breast with Broccoli or mixed veggies
Dinner: Meat (whatever kind) and veggies and maybe a salad if I’m really hungry
Snacks: Cheese sticks, Nuts, sliced meat and cheese rolled up or apple usually
I am NOT hungry at all, ever.
Since I am on the Personal Trainer Food Plan I already have all of this on hand since they sent me EVERYTHING that I need including all meals and snacks for 28 days. Of course, you could TOTALLY do this on your own and eat the same exact things, but for me, the convenience of having it all right there in packs ready to go to just heat and eat helps me to understand WHAT I am supposed to be eating without having to prepare it myself.
When I first started checking out the program I found a Groupon Deal that I actually bought in on before the company offered to let me try the food for free in exchange for an honest review (no other compensation). The groupon deal was $99 for $200 off any 28 day meal package or $199 for their 28 day REV program which is kind of like an “extreme fat burning program”. The REV program comes with a RIDICULOUS amount veggies (140 veggie servings) and comes with ONE meat serving per day for 28 days. With the REV program, you can add other items on your own from the “allowed list” too. I personally don’t think the REV plan is the best one to start out with unless you have to lose weight really fast for a special occasion or event or if you plan to add more of the allowed food to it. Here’s why…
After discussing everything with the company, they ended up sending me their “all inclusive package” which includes EVERYTHING that you need for 28 days (28 breakfasts, 28 full lunch meals, 28 full dinner meals and 56 snacks). If I were purchasing the entire program myself, I would probably buy the ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGE (if you can swing it). It ends up working out to about $12.29 per day or $4.10 per meal for HEALTHY and REALLY GOOD FOOD plus snacks! If you can’t swing putting out that much, then buy the REV pack and add the other meats and eggs to it. I am not kidding when I say that I will VERY LIKELY continue buying the package after the 28 days because the food is really good. That is saying a lot too since you all know how frugal I am. I really don’t think that I could buy all of this good food and prepare it like they do for much less than that. It just makes it so easy!
Again, you CAN do the same thing on your own by buying the foods yourself, but they make it super easy and for me just starting out, EASY is very important.
As of this morning, I am down 4.2 pounds and I feel great! I personally did not go through any kind of weird sugar withdrawals by eliminating the carbs from my diet. I do think that sugar withdrawals is to be expected though. I am not a soda drinker so it wasn’t hard for me to eliminate sugar drinks at all. The hardest thing for me was not using Bailey’s French Vanilla Creamer in my ice coffee each morning. I had to switch over to non sweetened powder creamer, but it didn’t kill me and I have adjusted to that pretty well I must say.
The biggest difference that I have noticed is that I don’t have the energy high’s and low’s at all since starting to eat right. I wake up feeling refreshed each morning and I maintain my energy level throughout the day. Part of the program requires you to walk a minimum of 10 minutes each day, no other exercise required. I have to admit that it doesn’t sound like much, but if you aren’t used to exercising, 10 minutes of brisk walking seems like an eternity. What I do is I walk around my yard for 10 minutes while listening to Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” on repeat three times which totals ten minutes. If you haven’t listened to that song yet, it is SUPER CATCHY so you can’t help yourself from getting a little pep to your step (here is the youtube video if interested). After a couple of days of faithfully walking, I actually felt like walking and it was the weirdest feeling EVER! 🙂
I will keep you all posted as I continue my 28 days of Personal Trainer Foods and let you know my honest opinion of the food and how it works for me. I would love to hear about whatever program you are doing as well. I have friends on different programs and it really helps to talk about it and keep each other motivated!!
Here is an idea of just SOME of the food selections that I was able to pick:
If you have any questions feel free to ask! I am just learning but would be more than happy to share what I know!
