I truly love this picture. It sums up the thoughts for today so perfectly. Sometimes, it is the small things in life that truly make us happy. Even more often, it is the small things we would never expect. Hence the picture of the cat, perfectly content while a mouse hangs out in his arms. Don’t you love it?
Let’s find the beauty today in the small things, shall we?
First, I want to give you some homework. Don’t worry, this is fun work and I promise it doesn’t involve multiplication or algebra! This week, I want you to make a list of the little things that bring you joy. Is it finding a great coupon? Hitting up a fantastic sale? Fresh flowers? A hot breakfast? A cup of tea? We all have those little perks during the week that really fuel us and do wonders for our souls.
Now that you have identified those happiness triggers, how will you find ways to include them more in your life? This part is a bit tricky. Our lives are busy and often times we don’t think about ourselves. And so, working them in may be challenge. But don’t stop now. Think of how you can be sure at least 2-3 of these little happiness triggers make it into your week. Will you call a friend for tea? Will you make sure to snag some inexpensive flowers at the grocery store? Whatever the trigger is, find a way to go for it.
Finally, when you find yourself in the moment of enjoying the small things, EMBRACE it! Stop, reflect, and give thanks for the moment. These moments are what fuels us, what boosts our brain, and what makes us who we are. Enjoy it, as most of the time they go quickly.
