Have you ever looked around you and noticed the seasons changing? You know, we could learn a lot from them. It seems as though the Earth knows when a change is needed, but as humans, we don’t always take the cues as well. Let’s find beauty today in change and ask ourselves, how can we embrace change?
Because although it is scary, there is a season in life for everything. A friend of mine use to remind me, for everything in life there is a season. And our job, is to recognize and acknowledge when a season is ending and a new season is beginning.
Now, let me explain, I am not talking being able to recognize when summer is ending and fall is starting. That is too easy. But our seasons in life so to speak. Things are always changing. We couldn’t possibly grow and get better if things in life always stayed exactly the same. For a person who could faint at the thought of change, this is a hard concept to roll with.
Have you ever looked around you in the fall? The branches go bare, and all of the yard furniture looks cold, and lonely. All of the green is gone and the once billowy yard is stripped down to its bare bones. And no matter how much water, or fertilizer, or love you were to give it…it wouldn’t matter. Its season is over, and change is inevitable.
The universe recognizes the need to change. The trees shed themselves of dead leaves they no longer need, flowers dry up and return to the ground to reseed for next year, and the cold bare branches harden themselves to prepare for the long winter ahead. And because mother nature is so amazingly brilliant, why not follow her lead? By shedding ourselves of dead baggage, we make room for new. By allowing old ideas that aren’t working anymore to dry up and return to the drawing board we make way for new ideas to bloom. And last but not least, for as hard and possibly painful as it might be, by peeling back our complicated layers and seeing what lies beneath we can better prepare ourselves for whatever “cold” lies ahead.
The point is…we need to recognize when something is a wash, to let go, and start new. Change can be scary, but it is never impossible. As a new season draws near, its a good time to take a look at the seasons changing within ourselves. Not an easy task, but do you think its easy for a 50 foot maple tree to shed every last leaf it has year after year, only to start all over in the spring? Nope. But it too knows it is the only way to start new each spring.
