Just like the famous Disney song says, sometimes you have to learn to let it go. But what does this mean exactly? To each person, learning to let go can have a different meaning. It can be as complicated as letting go of a grudge, or as simple as letting go of a hot deal you didn’t get to take advantage of. Learning to let go isn’t easy, as often times we associate it with failing. But I am here to tell you, that’s not true at all. Take a look at some helpful tips on learning to let it go! These scenarios will hopefully help you see that sometimes, letting go is the best choice.
Scenario One. So suppose someone has hurt you and your feelings. Does it make sense to walk around for the next few days moping and upset? Not exactly. You see, that is allowing the person to further invade your life and keep you from living your fullest. My advice? Let it go! Why be held back because of someone else’s poor actions?
Scenario Two. Let’s say there was a super hot deal on toothpaste. In fact this deal was so hot, you could have scored 20 tubes for free. But you forgot your coupons at home, forgot to grab a rain check and now the sale is over. This is a deal you missed out on. Does it make sense to mope for the next few days, and tell everyone you know about the hot deal that got away? No. Let it go! There will be more deals, better deals, and after all, what is the point of saving a few bucks if you are going to torture yourself over every missed deal? You aren’t really saving then, are you?
Scenario Three. You had unexpected guests drop by. The kitchen is a mess, there are coupon inserts all over the table, and you notice smudges all over the windows. You can spend the next 30 minutes of your visit apologizing and trying to pick up, or you can relax, visit, and let it go! Which one sounds more fun? Let go of the idea that everything needs to be perfect and in place. Instead, enjoy the company of those around you and let the little things be just that…little.
These are three very basic scenarios to give you an idea of how to let go. Now, think about your own life and situations that you too can shed. By letting go of things that aren’t really important and not allowing yourself to over think you can enjoy life. You will feel better, lighter, and more relaxed. I promise!
